1  Who can join this online French program?
This website is intended for anyone, regardless of their creed, religion, race, color, age, ethnicity, disability, sex, gender, or sexual orientation. All that matters is your strong interest in the French language. If you are truly motivated to study French, I have no doubt that this program can help you meet your expectations. People from all walks of life join FrenchtasticPeople.com . Inside the Frenchtastic community forum, you will interact with retirees, students, emigrants about to settle in Montreal, professionals, doctors or engineers who need French in their careers, spouses desiring to better communicate with their French-speaking partners, or people who want to learn French just because of the way it sounds. 2  I have just recently joined FrenchtasticPeople.com, and I can see that you are far ahead in the lessons. Is it too late to catch up? Where should I start?
Non, il n'est jamais trop tard. (No, it is never too late). It does not matter when you first started in this program because many other people will join after you, anyway. Just make sure you download the French lessons starting from week 1. Do the exercises, be active in the forum, ask questions, take your exams and everything will be just fine. If you need help with any test or homework, don't hesitate to download the answer key available online, too.  [Top]
3  Can I really improve my French by taking your lessons?
I believe this program can help you significantly improve your French, if you are serious about learning this language in the first place. Remember, this is a free online class that you joined voluntarily, and I cannot coerce you in any way to study the lessons and take the tests if you decide not to. How much and how fast you will learn here will mostly depend on you and your personal expectations. If you are, for example, a student who wants to join this program just because he or she needs a good grade in a specific test in order to pass a French course, I am afraid it might take more than that to be proficient in French. You will need to devote some of your personal time to study, and be focused and consistent in what you are doing. As far as I am concerned, I will do my best to provide you with the necessary lessons and tools to make your dream to speak and read, and understand French a reality. If, despite your strong motivation, you still face some challenges, just remember that I and many other Frenchtastic members just like you are here to make this learning experience a positive one for everyone. Just seek help in the community forum, or find an Frenchtastic classmate you can interact and study with. More importantly, never hesitate to ask for help when you need it. My personal advice, Be serious while having fun.with the French language.  [Top]
5  Free French lessons, free personal French tutor, free exams, and free help...You must be joking, right? Why don't you ask for money for doing all this?
No, this free French program is NOT a joke! At FrenchtasticPeople.com , you can have access to all the resources and support you need to improve your French AT NO FINANCIAL COST. I have always valued friendship and human relationship over financial rewards. In my personal life, I experienced how money, and the lack of it, could negatively influence human interactions and create needless worries, while preventing many people from achieving their most simple dreams. My greatest reward will be to receive hundreds of emails written in French from all of you, saying how you were moved to tears when reading Victor Hugo's "Notre Dame de Paris" in its original French version, or how your trip to Quebec, Dakar, or Paris was much more enjoyable because you were able to better communicate in French with the local populations. Even if I was to engage in any sort of sales activities down the road on this website, I would like you to remain assured that my lessons, exams and help would ALWAYS remain free. I garantee it! Enjoy!   [Top]
6  Will you really provide some personal assistance every time I need help with my French homework? Can I ask my questions and send my comments by email, and will you respond?
Yes, I will, but maybe not every time. As much as I would love to help without restrictions, you have to understand that my time will be equally shared between the hundreds of other Frenchtastic members. Besides, I have to prepare the weekly lessons, the exercises, the exams, and their solutions. I also have to monitor the forum, run and maintain this website, I am afraid nothing will ever get get done if I personally assist every single member in this program. Instead, the best way to get help is to post your questions in the forum so that all other members and myself provide you all the assistance you need. This way, Frenchtastic members with similar problems can be helped, too, and it will save us a lot of time. There are several moderators who are ready to answer your questions whenever possible. Check the answer keys already posted online, and make sure you understand them before making a request. If you still face the same difficulties, never hesitate to contact me through the forum, or email me if you are not totally satisfied with the answers you get. For other technical problems, such as failed log in or registration attempts, inability to access the downloadable files, etc, please send me a quick email and I will personally take care of that. 7  I am currently a student taking a French course at school, and I need help with a take-home French exam. I need to have a very good grade in order to pass this class. Will you be willing to answer the questions for me?
I wish I could. Unfortunately, I can't do the test for you due to the legal implications this type of actions may have for both you and me. However, you may receive some suggestions from other members or myself within the forum, but understand that neither FrenchtasticPeople.com or myself, Herman, will be held liable should you have any unsatisfactory result. Use our resources at your sole discretion, and face the consequences, good or bad.  [Top]
8  I learn faster when I study with someone, and I need a cyber Frenchtastic classmate. Are there other Frenchtastic members in this program who would like to share tips and advice relating to the French lessons and exams we take?
Yes, there are many other Frenchtastic members who, just like you, are looking for online classmates to study French. If you are really interested in finding one, please feel free to leave your contact in the appropriate forum, or send me your contact details, if you want to have your information posted on the FrenchtasticPeople website.  [Top]
9 You have taught something in one of your lessons that is quite different from what I previously learned with another teacher. Who's right, and who's wrong then?
First of all, it is a very good thing if you are able to detect some differences between what you learn with your actual French teacher and the lessons I provide here. It shows that you pay great attention to what you study. Just like any other language in the world, French will have some variances. An expression widely used in Montreal may not be known in Paris or Abidjan. Within France itself, you may encounter these linguistic variances as you travel from one region to another, but it does not mean that one of them is necessarily wrong. If you ever discover such such inconsistencies while learning French with me, please let me know. And who knows, I might be wrong. So,always keep a critical eye on what you learn here or anywhere else. [Top]
4 How do I know that you are teaching us some good quality French, and not just some "verlan" (French slang)? Are you competent?
I do not really like to "brag" about myself when it comes to what I can do. I'd rather let you discover that for yourself, but  I understand that you may have some doubts about this French program and its author. Here are some quick answers that, I hope, will give you more confidence in my abilities to teach the French language. I am a 29-year-old native French speaker, born from a father who was himself a French teacher. I quickly demonstrated strong skills in French at school, and in 1999, I won a litterary contest for writing a short story "La Plainte de Gadou Paul", which was later published in 2000 by Editions CEDA. I earned a Bachelor's degree in French, after earning a Bachelor's degree in English and an Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies. I became the recipient of a Fellowship (UROP) granted by the University of Minnesota for writing a thesis about the "Animal symbolism in medieval French and African literatures". And bla-bla-bla...(Hehe, you don't think I'm going to write my entire curriculum vitae here). I hope this answers the questions regarding my competence, too. And the fact that hundreds of people have already signed up to receive my lessons also speak for itself. Well, the more important thing to retain from all this is my committment to sharing what I have learned and helping other people speak, write, and understand French. I do know some "verlan", but I won't teach it here :-)   [Top]
